Information on Huts used by MSG

The facilities mentioned are based on my memory so reality may vary slightly but I have tried to be conservative when uncertain.

Awatiro (Auckland hut at Waitomo)

Sleeping - 2 bunkrooms with upper and lower bunks,each bunk able to sleep 5-6 people. 1 bunkroom (members only) with 6 bunks.
Cooking - 1 oven with 4 elements on top, 2 hotplates each with 2 elements, toasters, fridge, pots, plates, cups, utensils.
Other - lounge with fireplace and easy chairs, 2 showers, 1 toilet with view (paper provided), map collection.
Things to note - turn on power on arrival (need code from ASG to use on power lock), hut is locked and needs to be booked. Cost of $4 per night for NZSS members, more for non-members.

HTG Hut (Hamilton Tomo Group hut at Waitomo)

Sleeping - separate bedrooms with varying number of beds in each. At least 30 beds (some of these could sleep 2/bed.)
Cooking - 2 ovens with 4 elements on each,1 hotplate, microwave, 2 fridges, toasters, pots, plates, cups, utensils.
Other - lounge with easy chairs and fireplace, drying room, showers, toilets (paper provided), practise SRT rope in lounge, map collection. Hut warden looks after hut (book in advance). Cost of $4 per night for NZSS members, more for non-members.

Mahoenui (TCG hut )

Sleeping - 4 bedrooms with room for about 20 people in total.
Cooking - gas cooking with 4 rings and a griller for toast, no fridge, pots, plates, cups, utensils.
Other - lounge with easy chairs and fireplace, 1 shower heated by wetback fireplace, 1 toilet (BYO paper), no power points.
Things to note - turn on water on west side of house, house is locked and needs to be booked from ringing Robert Hoyle, the farmer. Cost of $4 per night.

Puketiti (shearer's quarters)

Sleeping - 4 bedrooms and a lounge (total sleeping about 14 comfortably).
Cooking - 1 oven with 4 elements, fridge, pots, plates, utensils, toaster.
Other - lounge with couch and easy chairs, 2 showers, 3 toilets (BYO paper).
Things to note - permission to stay obtained from station manager. A small charge is levied for each night of stay.

Whakapunake (shearer's quarters)

'''Sleeping - 4 bedrooms with total sleeping for about 12 people depending on the number of matresses available.
Cooking - 1 oven with 4 elements, fridge, zip water heater.
Other - 2 showers, 2 toilets (BYO paper).
Things to note - shearer's quarters is locked, permission and keys obtained from farm manager. Normally a dozen beers are given to the manager (based on $2 per person per night).
